Lab Walkthrough Video:

The access key id and secret key of an S3 bucket user were compromised and also the S3 endpoint was exposed to the attacker.

Objective:  Interact with the exposed S3 endpoint and perform the following tasks:

  1. Identify the S3 Endpoint.
  2. List all the buckets owned by the current user.
  3. List all the files stored on the S3 Bucket "hello-world".
  4. Retrieve content stored in the text file "flag" on the S3 Bucket "hello-world".
  5. Upload a file to S3 bucket "hello-world" with the content "Hello World".
  6. Is Object listing allowed for anonymous users on the S3 Bucket "welcome"?
  7. Modify the Bucket policy on S3 Bucket "welcome" to list the objects present in it.
  8. Delete the file "welcome" from the S3 Bucket "hello-world".

This lab has been created using Minio which is an Open Source, Enterprise-Grade, Amazon S3 Compatible Object Storage.


  • This lab is dedicated to you! No other users are on this network :) 
  • Once you start the lab, you will have access to a Ubuntu instance.
  • Your Ubuntu Instance has an interface with IP address 192.X.Y.2. Run "ip addr" to know the values of X and Y.
  • The exposed S3 endpoint should be located at the IP address 192.X.Y.3. 
  • Do not attack the gateway located at IP address 192.X.Y.1
