Lab Walkthrough Video:

Android mobile applications need user's permission to access different resources or to perform restricted/privileged actions. These permissions are listed in AndroidManifest.xml file which is packaged in application APK. One of the tell-tale signs of the malicious applications is that they have permissions irrelevant to their advertised purpose e.g. an alarm app with permission to send SMS.

In this lab, you are provided with APK of a video player application. Use Mobile Security Framework (MobSF) to analyze the APK. Download the challenge APK from here

Objective: Analyze the AndroidManifest.xml and identify the unnecessary/suspicious permission.

Guidelines:

Verify:
1. Provide the full permission string (e.g. android.permission.WAKE_LOCK) for first permission

2. Provide the full permission string (e.g. android.permission.WAKE_LOCK) for second permission
